It was confirmed by the company owner of the Eiffel Tower that it is officially forbidden to share a dark night photo of the Eiffel Tower, one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions. If such photos are shared, they may face serious penalties.

More than 6 million tourists visit the Eiffel Tower annually, one of the most impressive areas in the world. This structure, which is 300 meters long, has opened its doors to both French and tourists from other countries since 1889. But did you know that it is forbidden to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower, one of the most well-known places in the world, in the dark of night and share it anywhere?

“What have I just read?” You may be asking, you’re right, but unfortunately, this is the case. In other words, to explain the situation again, it is forbidden by law to share the Eiffel Tower by taking pictures when it gets dark. Because the Eiffel Tower is considered a work of art and has copyright. However, the reason behind this ban is not from the French government. There are perhaps millions of photos showing the Eiffel Tower at night. Yes, we agree on this, but this is totally illegal.

“And who is entitled? Is the French government?” You might say. The answer is no. The French government is not the owner of the Eiffel Tower. Namely; The only structure of the Eiffel Tower is the public sphere. However, the lighting of the Eiffel Tower is not a public space and the lighting has a right.

The lighting of the Eiffel Tower was done in 1985 by a person named Pierre Bideau. So when you look at the night view of the Eiffel Tower, it is actually Bideau itself. Because it is protected by copyright.

Moreover, the Eiffel Tower operating company “Société d’exploitation De La Tour Eiffel” has clearly confirmed this situation. Therefore, the night shots of the Eiffel Tower are subject to permission and payment by the company.

You may have shared photos of the Eiffel Tower in your social media accounts for personal use. In this case, you probably won’t have any copyright issues, but you may be able to delete your photo.

If you share the photo for financial benefit, you may face large penalties. So it would be more useful for you to think twice when sharing the Eiffel Tower photos taken at night.
